Love makes a family. Nothing more, nothing less.

Cody Curran, Birth Doula

My name is Cody Curran; I am birth helper (doula, which is a word I’m moving away from). When I first discovered what a birth helper does, I knew I'd become one. I share many days with children and families as a teacher, tutor, and childcare provider. I naturally develop friendships with the families I care for and we get together to catch up after my time working with them has ended. I noticed how thankful parents are to have a childcare provider with whom they trust and love; I saw how my time with their children benefitted the whole family. I developed love not only for the children, but also for the parents; my search for a way to care for parents and children has brought me to become a birth companion/coach. As a birth companion I strive to help create a trusting and loving atmosphere around the families childbirth experience.  I believe starting the parenting journey feeling confident and supported will positively affect the parents parenting style for years to come.  I do my best to provide the birther’s partner with care and support so that they can focus their energy on the birther. I want to facilitate a healthy, loving birth experience for the parents to remember in a positive light.

I aim to create a loving atmosphere around childbirth by supporting birthers and their partners. I intend to help each birther feel confident and comfortable during their birth process. The more that parents are loved and supported during their labor and childbirth, the more positive their experience and memories will be. I assist parents in achieving their personal definition of ideal birth, starting parenthood feeling confident and supported.

As an experienced birth worker my main goal is to leave each family feeling truly loved. I want to help the birther's partner (if they have one) feel important, necessary, and useful during labor and childbirth. I want to help the partner feel engaged and confident in their role supporting the birther. The birther needs to feel their partner's love and sense of sharing in the intimate experience of bringing their child into being. Working together to create this strong feeling of support sets the foundation for a cooperative life as parents. Childbirth leaves a mark on your perception of the world, and I want to assist in making that new perception an optimistic one.
